At the feet of Jesus
Luke 10: 38-42
Jesus told Martha that she was worried about many things. That she needed to relax. What was she worried about? Did she worry that her guest were comfortable, that there was enough food, that everyone was enjoying themselves? Or maybe she was worried about her sister. Maybe she worried that Mary was not behaving in a proper way, or that she was not showing any consideration to her older sister? Jesus could she that she was over burdened and he felt compassion for her. We see his urgency when he addressed her by repeating her name twice.
Mary chose to sit at the feet of Jesus. What a blessed place. It is a place where you can forget about all your worries and shortcomings and just listen. Mary was able to soak up the words on Jesus and store it in her heart. She was able to feast her eyes on his glorious face. She chose the best way.
Choosing to consciously forget about all that trouble us and just sit at the feet of Jesus is difficult. Many times we find our minds going in all directions even while we try to get some devotional time in. Sitting at the feet of Jesus means shutting everything out, and listening with our hearts. It means every thing and all people fade into the background so that Jesus can become the focus of our souls.
Father, one thing we ask of you and this only we seek, that we may dwell in your house all the days of our lives, to gaze on they beauty and to seek you in your holy temple. Amen
